Feetures, MICAM, NYC Marathon, Tilly’s

Charlotte, NC-based sock brand Feetures has launched its first cycling collection. Available in three heights and two cushioning levels, the collection incorporates iWick fibers, an anatomical fit and targeted compression designed for cyclists. The collection is targeted to specialty retailers and is available at feetures.com.


The 90th edition of MICAM is slated to take place in Milan, Italy from Sept 20-23 with more than 500 companies and 5,000-plus international buyers, primarily from within Europe and Italy. Two show pavilions will house exclusive products featured at the trade event and the MICAM X area will host meetings and initiatives focused on the future of retail, sustainability, trends/materials and the future.


Runners in this year’s virtual New York City Marathon, running from Oct. 17 to Nov. 1, have an opportunity to win a brand new car in the Run for Volvo Cars Sweepstakes. Interested runners are advised to register for the virtual event at www.nyrr.org followed by a visit to www.RunforVolvoCars.com to design a new 2021 Volvo, including color and trim. A winner will be selected randomly.


Tilly’s, the 239-door specialty retailer whose second-quarter results were impacted by the closure of one-third of its home state California locations for weeks, has identified 5 to 6 locations across the U.S. as “hub stores” for additional e-commerce fulfillment beyond the banner’s fulfillment center. During the second quarter as year-over-year e-commerce sales rose 128 percent to $52.0 million, Tilly’s expanded its ship-from-store capabilities and introduced curbside pickup at select locations.

Women’s and men’s footwear were the best category performers for Tilly’s in the second quarter as the chain added several new brands to its merchandise assortment, including Nike women’s, Fjallraven and several unspecified new skate brands.

Following an August where brick-and-mortar sales dipped 46 percent and e-commerce revenues increased almost 41 percent, Tilly’s CEO and President Ed Thomas says the business is “trying to be proactive in anticipation of this significantly reduced Back-To-School period this year.” Third-quarter inventory receipts are said to be “well below” prior year levels as the retailer braces for period net sales “meaningfully below” last year’s $154.8 million. The retailer is also anticipating its stores results to be negative for the rest of the year.
