Hawaiian-inspired brand OluKai has made its retail home on the islands, opening two company-owned locations there on Oct. 23. The new OluKai brand shops are located at Whalers Village on Maui and at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on O’ahu, and will carry the breadth of the OluKai line as well as limited-edition product and artist collaborations. “Hawaii, its culture and people inspire us, so Maui and O’ahu are deliberate locations for OluKai’s first retail experiences,” Kerry Konrady, OluKai Vice President of Marketing, said in a release. “Our intention is to have consumers learn while they shop, even joining staff in our community giveback days or canoe sailing with our ambassadors.” Both locations feature custom artwork and fixturing from local artists and artisans, and a portion of all sales proceeds will be donated to local nonprofits through the company's Ama OluKai Foundation.
Australian boot brand Blundstone opened its first U.S. pop up location in Brooklyn, New York’s Williamsburg neighborhood yesterday — just in time for its 150th anniversary in 2020. The shop, which is opened in partnership with DNA Footwear, is carrying styles for men, women and children and will be open through March 2020. “It’s a huge and exciting time for Blundstone,” Steve Libonati, Blundstone’s U.S. distributor, said in a release. “Our sales and distribution in the U.S. have continued to grow year over year and this pop-up is proof of the brand’s continued success and growth momentum.”
Adidas has a new London location with the Oct. 24 opening of its new four-floor space on Oxford Street. Designed to work in tandem with the Adidas app, the store has more than 100 digital touchpoints powered by green energy, and shoppers can use the app to book an in-store sneaker cleaning, schedule a bra-fitting appointment or use in-store geolocation to have items in their size and color brought to them. To celebrate the store’s location, exclusive “LDN” product will be sold in-store, each floor features original work by local artists and a Union Jack made from 1,000 national flags takes center stage.
Skechers has opened a Skechers Kids Brand Experience flagship shop in the Disneytown shopping district at the Shanghai Disney Resort. The 2,777 sq.-ft. shop, which opened Oct. 20, is the brand’s largest in China, and the first Skechers store at a Disney resort. It will offer kids product from across the brand’s lines as well as a section dedicated to parent-child coordinated shoes and apparel. “Adding Disneytown to our portfolio is a seminal moment for our retail business. This amazing location is front and center in the middle of the action at Disneytown and offers a unique opportunity to expose a wide range of consumers to our Skechers Kids product,” Michael Greenberg, president of Skechers, said in a statement.
Madison Avenue is the home to the newest Mephisto store, near New York’s Rockefeller Center shopping area. The new shop is the comfort brand’s third New York space and 20th U.S. door. “New York is arguably one of the most important retail markets in the world,” James Rowley, CEO of Mephisto USA, said in a release. “And while this is our third store in Manhattan, we believe there is room for more.”
Portland, OR-based boot brand Danner will celebrate the opening of its new Seattle store on Nov. 9. Located in the city’s Queen Anne neighborhood, the second location in Seattle will focus on hiking and outdoor lifestyle boots.
